Immediate Closure of “The Legacy” Hotel in Algiers Following Desecration of the National Flag

The immediate closure and revocation of the operating license for "The Legacy" hotel in the municipality of Hydra (Algiers) have been enforced following an incident involving the undermining of state symbols and the desecration of the national flag, the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts announced on Saturday.

In a statement, the Ministry explained that "within the framework of ensuring respect for the laws and regulations in force governing the management of hotel establishments, and upon learning of the incident involving the undermining of state symbols and the desecration of the national flag at the 'The Legacy Hotel' in the municipality of Hydra, the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts initiated all necessary measures within its authority to investigate the incident and determine the facts."

The Minister of Tourism issued instructions for an "immediate field visit and the formation of an investigation committee, led by the Ministry's Inspector General and the Director of Tourism and Handicrafts for the Province of Algiers, to investigate the facts and prepare a detailed report."

Following this, the Minister held a meeting to review the findings of the field inspection, where "appropriate measures were taken, ensuring the strict application of current legislative and regulatory provisions."

In this regard, "the necessary legal and administrative procedures were initiated in coordination with the competent provincial authorities, resulting in the immediate closure of the establishment and the withdrawal of its operating license."

The Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts reaffirmed its "strict commitment to ensuring respect for the laws and regulations governing the hotel industry, and its zero-tolerance policy toward any behavior or action that undermines state symbols or violates the professional obligations and ethics imposed on hotel establishments, under penalty of the strict application of current legal procedures."
