Under President's Directive, Prime Minister Oversees Arrival of First Shipments of Gara Djebilet Iron Ore in Oran

Under the directive of the President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, arrived in Oran on Monday to oversee the arrival and unloading of the first shipments of iron ore extracted from the Gara Djebilet mine. These shipments are destined for the "Tosyali" steel plant. The event is part of the official celebrations marking the commissioning of the Gara Djebilet-Tindouf-Bechar western mining line, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office.


On this occasion, the Prime Minister was briefed on "detailed technical presentations and in-depth explanations regarding the production processes at the plant, starting with the reception and unloading of iron ore, followed by various stages of processing, and culminating in the final production of products. The focus was on the smooth operation of the workflow, efficiency of procedures, and seamless processes, ensuring compliance with the established technical and industrial standards, as well as achieving the highest quality output levels," the same source added.


Following that, the Prime Minister conducted a field visit to the pelletizing, smelting, and rolling units, where he closely monitored the operations to assess the organization of work and the efficiency of the production chain at all its stages.


The ceremony was attended by a high-level ministerial delegation, along with members of both chambers of Parliament, representatives of local, civil, and military authorities, as well as civil society representatives, dignitaries, and distinguished guests.


According to the statement, this step is part of "implementing the supreme directives of the President of the Republic and reflecting the national strategy aimed at diversifying sources of the national economy beyond the hydrocarbons sector, while establishing new foundations and resources to strengthen sustainable economic development."


The statement also emphasized that this strategic project is "a key pillar in the process of enhancing the value of national mining resources and strengthening the iron and steel industry, contributing to the efforts of economic diversification, developing transportation infrastructure, stimulating industrial investment, and creating new job opportunities. It aims to make the mining sector a central driver of national economic growth and serve the interests of future generations."
