The Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, Youcef Belmehdi, called on Tuesday in Algiers to draw inspiration from the sacrifices made by the Chouhada (Martyrs) for the homeland and to realize the value of unity and cohesion in facing challenges.
In a speech delivered at the opening of a study day organized by the ministry on the occasion of the National Day of the Chahid (February 18), under the theme: "Ramadan, Commemoration of the Memory of the Chouhada: Symbol of Sacrifice and Devotion," the minister stated that this date constitutes "a pause to renew the pledge to the Chouhada and remain faithful to their immense sacrifices that allowed the liberation of the dear homeland," stressing "the need to draw lessons from these sacrifices and to realize the value of unity and cohesion to face challenges."
On this occasion, Mr. Belmehdi urged imams to redouble their efforts to consolidate spiritual life within society during Ramadan, specifying that this holy month marks "a strong moment of spirituality conducive to bringing about a positive change in the behavior of the individual and society, spreading values of serenity and brotherhood, and banishing anything likely to harm the unity and values of society."
For his part, the Director of Religious Affairs and Wakfs of the Wilaya of Algiers, Mr. Kamel Belassel, indicated that his services began preparations a few days ago through the mobilization of 876 mosques as well as 71 prayer halls in new neighborhoods, pending the opening of 5 new mosques next Friday.
He also announced the development of a religious, cultural, and intellectual program that will be organized at the level of mosques, culture houses, cultural centers, public squares, as well as rehabilitation and reintegration centers, in coordination with several bodies, starting from the first night of the holy month.
