As part of the State's continuous commitment to building bridges with the national community abroad, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, conducted a visit to the brotherly Republic of Turquie. During his visit, he met with members of the Algerian diaspora residing within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Algeria in Istanbul, in the presence of the Consul General, Mustapha Boudib, according to a ministry press release.
In his address, the Secretary of State highlighted the directives of the country's high authorities aimed at ensuring direct and permanent communication with the diaspora. He recalled the massive turnout of the Algerian community in Ankara to greet President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during his official visit to Turquie from May 6 to 8, 2026. This scene, he noted, reflects the strong bonds between the community and their motherland, under the special care provided by the President of the Republic to this vital component of the Algerian nation.
Mr. Sofiane Chaib expressed the State’s pride in its national community abroad and the "honorable role" it plays in representing Algeria in host countries. He called on its members to continue their active contribution to national development and to exercise their constitutional rights, while strengthening their connection to the motherland and instilling the values of national identity in younger generations.
The Secretary of State emphasized the high authorities' commitment to providing maximum care and support for Algerian citizens abroad. He reviewed national initiatives to meet the community's needs and highlighted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' efforts to upgrade consular services through modernization and digitalization.
Furthermore, Mr. Chaib discussed efforts to bolster cultural and educational dimensions for the community in Turquie, notably the project to open an Algerian Cultural Center in Istanbul, following the President's instructions. This center aims to strengthen the national and cultural identity of the community, especially among the youth. He also praised the positive dynamic within the student and associative fabric, particularly following the establishment of the Union of Algerian Students in Turquie, an initiative he personally inaugurated via videoconference last November.
The meeting concluded with an open dialogue, allowing the Secretary of State to listen to the diaspora's concerns, inquiries, and proposals. He reaffirmed the Algerian State's commitment, through its various institutions, to provide full care, support, and guidance to its community abroad, the statement concluded.
