The election campaign for the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for July 2 kicks off today, Tuesday. Political parties and independent lists will compete to convince more than 24 million Algerian voters of their electoral programs in this national milestone, which represents a highly crucial step in the process of building and renewing legislative institutions.
The campaign will last for three weeks and, in accordance with the law, will conclude three days prior to voting day (the period of electoral silence). During this time, candidates will engage face-to-face with citizens through popular rallies and neighborhood meetings, as well as on social media platforms and audiovisual media, to present their ideas and promote the political, economic, and social visions they will advocate for during the tenth legislative term, which will span five years.
This campaign is being conducted under the full and direct supervision of the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE), and in accordance with the provisions of the organic law relating to the current electoral system as amended by recent legislative texts. The legislator has imposed a framework of strict conditions and standards to ensure the integrity, transparency, and equal opportunity of the process for all candidates.
These conditions and standards are designed to protect the citizen's free choice and provide a secure, neutral environment that allows them to exercise their right to vote and choose their representatives away from the influence of financial pressures or narrow loyalties, ultimately building a strong parliament capable of tackling upcoming legislative and economic challenges.
National media outlets of all types are set to cover this sensitive phase of the electoral process by ensuring professional and responsible media coverage. This coverage will uphold the principles of pluralism, transparency, and integrity, while strictly adhering to the legal, professional, and ethical rules governing the reporting of the various stages of the election—particularly the electoral campaign—thereby guaranteeing the citizen's right to objective, balanced, and credible information.
In this regard, a draw was held last Saturday at the International Conference Center (CIC) in Algiers to allocate broadcasting time slots for the candidates across national media outlets.
It is worth noting that the total electoral college stands at 24,727,041 voters, including 23,872,756 voters within the country and 854,285 voters from the national community residing abroad, according to the latest figures announced by the National Independent Authority for Elections following the extraordinary revision of the electoral rolls.
