Algerian international attacking midfielder Ibrahim Maza is among the most prominent young players of the 2026 World Cup group stage, according to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), which included him in its selection of talents who made their mark in the first round of the competition.
The 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen player has established himself as one of the centerpieces of the Algerian system during the World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Starting in all three matches played by the "Greens" in Group J, Maza stood out for his technical quality, his vision of the game, and his ability to direct the Algerian offensives, contributing significantly to the Greens' historic qualification for the Round of 32, the international body wrote on its official website.
The young Algerian international, who recorded the highest number of successful dribbles in the group stage, was notably named Man of the Match during the decisive 2-1 victory over Jordan, a win that proved crucial in the race for qualification.
In its review of young players born on or after January 1, 2005, who shone during the group stage, FIFA highlighted the "game intelligence, creativity, and influence" of the Algerian player, now considered one of the great hopes of national football.
The former Hertha Berlin player shares this prestigious list with several young talents who made their mark in the first round, such as Spain's Lamine Yamal, Switzerland's Johan Manzambi, and Senegal's Ibrahim Mbaye.
All eyes will now turn to Vancouver, where Ibrahim Maza and his teammates will take on Switzerland on Friday in the Round of 32 (4:00 AM Algerian time), with the ambition of continuing their journey in this 2026 World Cup.
Should they qualify, coach Vladimir Petkovic's men will face the winner of the other Round of 32 clash between Colombia and Ghana.
