The Sonatrach Group and the German company VNG have signed a natural gas supply contract within the framework of the official visit paid to the Federal Republic of Germany by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Sonatrach said in a statement on Sunday.
The contract was signed on Thursday by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sonatrach Group, Mr. Nour Eddine Daoudi, and the Chairman of the Executive Board of the German energy group VNG, Ulf Heitmüller, during a ceremony co-chaired by the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, and the German State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Frank Wetzel, in the presence of the State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety, Jochen Flasbarth, the same source specified.
According to the statement, this contract will strengthen the commercial relationship between Sonatrach and VNG by increasing natural gas deliveries to the German market starting January 1, 2027.
The statement recalled that Sonatrach and VNG are partners in the "Algeria to Europe Hydrogen Alliance" (ALTEH2A) and "SoutH2 Corridor" projects, which aim to produce hydrogen in Algeria and export it to Europe.
The two companies are also bound by a memorandum of understanding to explore cooperation opportunities in areas of mutual interest, particularly green hydrogen and the reduction of methane emissions.
The signing of this contract confirms the solid cooperation between Sonatrach and VNG and reflects the excellence of Algerian-German relations, the statement concluded.
