The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Sunday that the preliminary round draw for the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup will take place this Thursday at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, according to a statement on the governing body's official website.
The African football body indicated that clubs from across the continent will discover their initial opponents as they kick off their campaigns to secure a spot in the group stages of Africa's two premier club competitions.
The draw proceedings will commence with the CAF Confederation Cup at 12:00 p.m. (Algeria time), followed immediately by the CAF Champions League draw at 1:00 p.m.
The winner of the upcoming CAF Champions League will receive a lucrative prize of $6 million, while the CAF Confederation Cup champion will be awarded $4 million.
In a move to boost competitiveness and support participating teams, CAF announced that clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds will each receive a solidarity grant of $100,000. This initiative reflects the organization's ongoing investment in developing African club football.
It is worth noting that South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns clinched the CAF Champions League title last season, while Algeria's USM Alger was crowned champion of the CAF Confederation Cup.
During the 2026-2027 season, Algerian football will be heavily represented. Mouloudia Club d'Alger (MC Alger) and JS Saoura will compete in the prestigious Champions League, while CR Belouizdad and USM Alger will battle for glory in the Confederation Cup.
