The Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, chaired a meeting of the National Commission for the Prevention and Fight Against Neighborhood Gangs on Tuesday, according to a statement from the same ministry.

This meeting was dedicated to examining and discussing the draft action plan for the implementation of the national strategy to prevent and combat neighborhood gangs, the same source specified.

At the start of the meeting, Mr. Sayoud praised "the security and judicial efforts deployed daily" to combat neighborhood gangs, emphasizing that the drafting of the national strategy and the action plan intended for its implementation comes to support these efforts. This is achieved through "the establishment of an integrated national vision making prevention a permanent approach, based on cooperation between the various stakeholders and addressing the root causes of this phenomenon."

The action plan in question constitutes "an operational roadmap based on programs capable of being implemented, monitored, and evaluated according to a comprehensive approach taking into account security, social, educational, cultural, economic, and digital dimensions. This will allow for a transition from an interventionist approach after the occurrence of a crime to a proactive approach," he explained.

In this regard, he assured that the safety of citizens within neighborhoods and public spaces "is not limited to maintaining public order, but constitutes an essential pillar for strengthening the domestic front and enshrining national security."

"The success of the action plan will be evaluated based on its concrete impact achieved on the ground and its capacity to protect the youth, preserve neighborhoods, and strengthen citizens' trust in State institutions," the minister added.

The members of the National Commission formulated a series of observations and proposals aimed at enriching the action plan and strengthening the mechanisms for its implementation and monitoring.

They reaffirmed "the need for complementarity at the central and local levels, which will enable the achievement of the objectives outlined by the national strategy."

In this context, the minister listened to the various concerns and proposals formulated by the commission members, praising "the level of debate and the spirit of responsibility that characterized the proceedings."

After praising the efforts made by all members and representatives of the participating sectors and bodies, as well as the "high-quality contributions" in drafting the national strategy project and its implementation action plan, the minister indicated that "the next step will be dedicated to completing the strategy on the ground, following its adoption by the government. This will strengthen prevention against neighborhood gangs, protect the youth, and consolidate security within society as well as the authority of the State."
