The Council of Ministers, meeting yesterday, Sunday, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defense, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, made a decision regarding the regularization of the status of young Algerians abroad found in precarious and irregular situations, who were misled for the purpose of being exploited against their country, indicates a press release from the Council of Ministers.

Before concluding the Council of Ministers meeting, "the President of the Republic issued a call to young Algerians abroad in precarious and irregular situations, having been deliberately misled by individuals who believed they could harm the credibility of the State by manipulating them abroad against their country," states the press release. It adds that "most of these young people have committed only minor offenses, such as the fear of a simple summons by the police or the National Gendarmerie to be questioned on facts related to public order or other similar grounds."

"There are those who wanted to use statistics related to 'Harga' (illegal migration) to tarnish Algeria's image with the aim of sowing despair among the youth so that they would leave Algeria illegally. These young people find themselves today far from their homeland, their relatives, and their friends, suffering from extreme poverty and misery, and are reduced to performing humiliating tasks, while some are being manipulated against their country," the same source adds.

"Such situations do not deserve all this suffering, as these young people can be exploited by criminal mafia circles, which risks sullying their reputation, whether in the country where they are located or in the one they left," the statement highlights.

Consequently, the Council of Ministers, meeting today under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, and in full agreement among all institutions of the Republic, has made the decision to regularize the situation of these Algerian men and women, on the condition that they commit not to reoffend.

The implementation of procedures related to this decision will be ensured by Algerian consulates abroad until the return of Algeria's children to their motherland.

Excluded from this measure are perpetrators of violent crimes, drug trafficking, and arms trafficking, as well as any person having collaborated with foreign security services with the aim of harming their homeland, Algeria, the press release concludes.
