The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, expressed on Wednesday the satisfaction of Algeria and Italy regarding the progress made within the framework of bilateral cooperation in recent years, as well as the notable convergence of their positions on numerous regional and international issues.
In a joint statement to the press with the Prime Minister (President of the Council of Ministers) of the Italian Republic, Ms. Giorgia Meloni, following their talks at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, the President of the Republic expressed his high regard for Ms. Meloni's commitment to "strengthening the strategic partnership between the two friendly countries."
Emphasizing that Ms. Meloni's working and friendship visit to Algeria provided an opportunity to review the state of bilateral relations, the President of the Republic indicated that both parties jointly expressed their satisfaction with the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation over the past few years.
The President of the Republic also praised the efforts made by Algeria and Italy to "enhance coordination in combating irregular migration, human trafficking, terrorism, cross-border crime, and various security issues in the Mediterranean region."
On the regional and international levels, the talks allowed for an "exchange of views on a number of issues of common interest and to note a significant convergence of positions on several files," added the President of the Republic.
Regarding the situation in Africa, the President of the Republic stated that he had reviewed with the Italian Prime Minister the main outcomes of the 2nd Africa-Italy Summit, held last month in Addis Ababa.
"We expressed our concern regarding the situation in the Sahel and our determination to tackle the challenges related to the fight against terrorism and organized crime in this strategic region for Africa and the Mediterranean basin," he said.
As for the situation in Libya, the President of the Republic declared: "We emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to find urgent solutions, enabling this country to overcome the current deadlock and to guarantee its unity as well as the sovereignty of the brotherly Libyan people over their territory, while renewing our support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL)."
