The President of the National People's Assembly, Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, received this Sunday in Algiers the Rector of the Mosque of Paris, Mr. Chems-Eddine Hafiz. The two parties discussed several issues, particularly regarding the role of the Paris Mosque in consolidating the values of moderation and middle-ground, according to a statement from the Assembly.
The statement added that “the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss several issues, particularly the role of the Great Mosque of Paris in consolidating the values of moderation and middle-ground, combating extremist discourse, and promoting a culture of dialogue and coexistence among peoples”. The two parties also addressed “the conditions of the Algerian community abroad, especially in France, and ways to support them while preserving their national and religious identity to strengthen their bond with the motherland”.
In this context, Mr. Boughali emphasized the significance of the role played by the Mosque of Paris in serving moderate Islam and enhancing Algeria's image abroad. He highlighted the necessity of “intensifying coordination in a manner that aligns with the national religious reference and safeguards the nation's constants”.
He also reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to “supporting all initiatives that aim to safeguard identity and enhance its positive presence in international forums”.
For his part, Mr. Hafiz praised the “strength of the bonds between the members of the Algerian community and their homeland,' expressing his readiness to continue efforts to serve shared values and strengthen the ties of communication”.
