Pope Leo XIV, who arrived in Algeria this Monday on an official visit, emphasized that Algeria, strengthened by its deep roots and the hope of its youth, is capable of continuing its contribution to establishing stability and dialogue within the international community and across both shores of the Mediterranean.

In a speech delivered at Riadh El Feth Square before the delegations gathered to welcome him, Pope Leo XIV stated: “Algeria, strengthened by its roots and the hope of its youth, is capable of continuing its contribution to establishing stability and dialogue within the international community and across both shores of the Mediterranean”.

Pope Leo XIV highlighted Algeria's rich heritage, which, as he stated, “strengthened its journey during difficult times and continues to guide its future”.

He added that “the future is in the hands of the men and women who are peacemakers,” noting that “justice will always triumph over injustice, and violence, despite all appearances, will never have the last word”.

In the same context, he emphasized that mutual respect represents “the path that enables peoples to walk together”.

Furthermore, Pope Leo XIV reflected on the prominent status of Algeria, describing it as a “crossroads of cultures and religions”.

He continued by stating that Algeria is “a noble country, with a long and rich history of traditions, stretching back to the time of Saint Augustine and long before that”.

Addressing the Algerian people, he added: “Algeria's history has known pain and suffered through periods of violence, but you knew how to overcome it all with honor and courage”.

It is worth noting that Pope Leo XIV arrived in Algeria earlier today on an official visit, following an invitation from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
