Prime Minister Mr. Sifi Ghrieb chaired a Government meeting on Wednesday dedicated to examining draft executive decrees regarding the prescription of pharmaceutical products intended for human medicine, the declaration of public utility for the construction of the Algiers-Tamanghasset railway line (specifically the El-Meniaâ-In Salah and In Salah-Tamanghasset sections), and the follow-up on water resources projects. This was announced in a press release from the Prime Minister's Services, the full text of which is as follows:
"The Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, chaired a Government meeting this Wednesday, June 17, 2026, dedicated to examining the following points:
The Government examined a draft executive decree setting the conditions and modalities for the prescription and dispensing of pharmaceutical products intended for human medicine.
The objective of this draft text is to define the framework of practice for healthcare professionals within public and private facilities and establishments, to guarantee a rational and safe use that complies with national public health requirements.
This is a strategic instrument for consolidating the national pharmaceutical system and modernizing medical practice in Algeria. It responds to the need to adapt the regulatory framework to developments within the healthcare system, which is currently characterized by the modernization of therapeutic practices, the diversification of available products, and the emergence of heightened risks related to the misuse, counterfeiting, and diversion of sensitive substances.
The Government also examined a draft executive decree declaring the operation related to the construction of the Algiers-Tamanghasset railway line—specifically the El-Meniaâ-In Salah and In Salah-Tamanghasset sections—as a project of public utility.
The two sections, El-Meniaâ-In Salah covering a distance of 410 km and In Salah-Tamanghasset covering 676 km, are part of the broader project to build the Algiers-Tamanghasset railway line, which spans over 2,400 km. This will greatly contribute to supporting the development of rail transport in the High Plateaus and the south of the country, consequently improving living conditions and promoting inclusive economic growth in the region.
Finally, as part of the follow-up on the drinking water supply situation, the Government inquired about the progress of projects related to the construction and downstream connection works of the Algiers West seawater desalination plant in Fouka. They also reviewed the drinking water supply works for the locality of Tin Zaouatine, in the wilaya of In Guezam, drawing from the Tanezrouft water field."
