A total of 265 journalists have fallen as martyrs in the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip since October 2023, while approximately 900 others have lost their homes or been displaced, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported, citing a report by the Freedom Committee of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.
According to this report published on Sunday, titled "Media Without Walls: Reality, Impacts, and Testimonies of the Displacement of Journalists in the Gaza Strip," 265 journalists have fallen as martyrs, and between 700 and 900 others out of the 1,200 recorded in the enclave have lost their homes or been forced to relocate multiple times.
More than 80% of media offices and institutions have been totally or partially destroyed by the bombardments of the Zionist occupation army.
Journalists are now working in extremely precarious conditions—in tents, in shelters, or on public streets—primarily using their mobile phones to produce and transmit information, with limited access to the internet, the same source adds.
The destruction of media infrastructure severely affects the quality of journalistic work, the safety of reporters, and their ability to verify information and protect their sources, the report notes.
In this regard, the committee reiterated its call to the international community to provide urgent protection for journalists in the Gaza Strip, support the creation of temporary and secure workspaces, prevent the targeting of media institutions, and provide psychological and professional support to the affected journalists.
