The Minister of Communication, Zoheir Bouamama, accompanied by the Acting President of the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE), Karim Khelfane, paid a visit on Tuesday to the International Press Center (IPC) at the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Centre (CIC) in Algiers. There, they reviewed the preparations and inspected the resources made available to national and international media for the coverage of the July 2 legislative elections.
On this occasion, the Minister of Communication and the Acting President of ANIE visited the center's various spaces, including program recording studios, transmission and newsrooms, as well as the technical and material resources mobilized for the coverage of this national event.
In a statement to the press, the Minister of Communication indicated that the objective of this visit is to review the final preparations regarding the coverage of the legislative elections, affirming that "all necessary conditions have been met to guarantee broad media coverage of this important event."
The Ministry of Communication "has set up an integrated media system, equipped with significant resources and services offering the best conditions for the coverage of this national event," he added.
The Minister further specified that his department "has received, to date, more than 700 requests from journalists and technicians to cover these elections, including 49 submitted by permanent representatives of the foreign press accredited in Algeria."
"More than 75% of these requests have been processed, and the distribution of accreditation badges will begin on Wednesday to allow those concerned to start their work in the field," he added.
In this context, he recalled the need to "continue to demonstrate professionalism and neutrality" during the media coverage of these legislative elections.
At the end of his visit, Mr. Bouamama called for strong participation in this event, emphasizing that elections constitute "the fundamental pillar of democratic choice and a constitutional right allowing the choice of the people's representatives within elected institutions."
For his part, Mr. Khelfane praised the significant technical, human, and material resources made available by the State for this important national event. He highlighted "the central role" entrusted to the press in accompanying the electoral process and its related activities, both inside the country and abroad among the Algerian community.
