A national musical gala was held on Saturday evening in Algiers, blending brass band performances with patriotic anthems under the theme "Descendant of Free Men" (Sali el Rijal al-Ahrar), to commemorate the 64th anniversary of Independence and Youth Day.
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Directorate of Youth, Sports, and Leisure for the wilaya of Algiers organized the evening under the slogan "Independence: A Legacy for Future Generations." The event took place at the Grande Poste square in the presence of the Director, Mr. Mohamed Amine Saâd, along with several local officials and a large public audience.
Musical groups from the Youth Houses of Aïn Naâdja, Rahmania, and Staouéli opened the evening with the Algerian National Anthem. This was followed by nearly ten patriotic pieces, including classics such as "Ya Chahid el Watan" (Oh Martyr of the Homeland), "Ikhouani la tansaw ech-Chouhada" (My Brothers, Do Not Forget the Martyrs), "Ich-hadi ya Sama" (Witness, Oh Heaven), "Chaâb el Djazaïr Mouslim" (The Algerian People are Muslim), and "Tahia Falastine" (Long Live Palestine).
Under the direction of conductor Mohamed Mehank, a group of singers representing seven Youth Houses in Algiers delighted the audience with performances of "Farha wa Zahwa" and "Yahiaw Oulad Bladi", which the crowd sang along with in a joyous atmosphere.
The evening also featured the announcement of the winners of the "Oil Painting Art" competition. Roumaysa Merabet was awarded first prize, Manal Lanacri took second, and Hebat Errahmane Keddou received third prize. Their works, selected from among four others, focused on the themes of Independence and Youth Day.
The celebrations continue this Sunday at Sablettes Park, where the program includes the second part of the brass band and choir performances, as well as the opening of the 7th edition of the National Festival of Young Talents in Operatic Singing.
