The Palestinian embassy in the United Kingdom was inaugurated on Monday, more than three months after the United Kingdom recognized the State of Palestine, with the Palestinian ambassador hailing a "historic moment."

"We are gathered today to mark a historic moment: the inauguration of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in the United Kingdom, with full diplomatic status and functions," welcomed Ambassador Husam Zomlot, who previously held the title of Head of the Palestinian Diplomatic Mission.

The opening of this embassy "marks a significant milestone in British-Palestinian relations, and in the Palestinian people's long journey toward freedom and self-determination," he added.

He then unveiled the "Embassy of the State of Palestine" plaque affixed to the building, located in Hammersmith, west London.

"For generations of Palestinians in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem and in refugee camps, as well as throughout the diaspora, this embassy represents proof that our identity cannot be denied," Mr. Zomlot insisted.

It "is a promise, that of pursuing a just and lasting peace, anchored in international law and universal values," he added.

King Charles III's representative, Alistair Harrison, also declared that this was "a historic moment for Palestine" and "the beginning of a major shift in (our) already very close bilateral relations."

The United Kingdom officially recognized the State of Palestine last September, nearly two years after the start of the Zionist genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
