The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, delivered an address on Saturday in Addis Ababa regarding the G20 Summit, during the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Summit, read by the Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb. Below is the translated version of the full speech:

"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,

Prayers and peace be upon the noblest of Messengers,

Excellency, Mr. Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa,

Excellencies, Heads of State and Government,

Mr. Chairperson of the African Union,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Allow me, first of all, to congratulate you, Mr. President, on the success of the South African presidency of the G20, the Summit of which was held, for the first time, on African soil. I also congratulate you on the efforts made by your brotherly country throughout this presidency to make Africa's voice heard among decision-makers within the G20 framework, and to defend the interests of developing countries, particularly African ones.

I also take this opportunity to renew my thanks to you for the invitation you extended to my country to participate as a 'Guest Country' in this Summit, where the Algerian delegation had the honor of taking part in several high-level meetings that addressed sensitive and important issues related to G20 priorities. This reaffirms the depth of the relations uniting our two brotherly countries.

Your presidency of the G20 coincided with the African Union's second participation as a full member of this Group, which we consider an achievement to be valued and an important step towards ending the marginalization our continent has suffered at the level of global governance institutions, becoming today an active partner in shaping global economic decisions.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Our brothers in South Africa have worked tirelessly within the G20 to defend our continent's development priorities, foremost among them the acceleration of inclusive economic growth and the strengthening of industrialization. These efforts have allowed African development issues to be placed at the heart of the debates, consistent with the African Union's Agenda 2063, which was clearly highlighted in the Final Declaration of the Summit held in Johannesburg last November.

We also welcome the efforts deployed to include the issue of financing for development and alleviating the debt burden of African countries at the heart of G20 discussions, through the reform of the international financial system so that it becomes fairer and more responsive to the needs of developing countries. We further welcome the support for these countries to enable them to achieve sustainable development, face climate challenges, and undergo a just energy transition, taking into account the specificities of the African continent.

Mr. President,

What has been achieved within the G20 under your presidency constitutes an important milestone to the credit of our continent, which reinforces our determination to strengthen common action in a spirit of responsibility and African solidarity, with a view to consolidating our continent's place on the international stage and guaranteeing a future based on justice, sustainable peace, and shared prosperity for Africa and the world.

I thank you for your kind attention."
