Hadj Ahmed Bey is the title of the feature film released this year, dedicated to the life of Ahmed Ben Mohamed Chérif, the last Bey to head the Algerian Beylik of the East before the French colonization in the 19th century.

Screened in preview yesterday, Sunday, this cinematographic work retraces the journey and heroic resistance of Ahmed Bey against the French occupation for nearly two decades, as well as his achievements in transforming Constantine into a bastion of resistance and an impregnable citadel.

“He answered the call of Dey Hussein of Algiers to face this invasion,” recalled Tahar Zaoui, the actor who majestically portrayed the role, in an interview with Radio Channel 3.

The film, produced by the Algerian Center for Cinema Development (CADC) and directed by Chawki El Medjeri, is intended to be a historical and memorial fresco. This production was managed in coordination with executive producer Samira Hadji Djilani, in collaboration with the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts.

Three preview screenings have been scheduled: Constantine, Algiers, and Oran.

The first preview screening, held yesterday at the main hall of the Zénith complex in Constantine, has already received very positive feedback from the audience.
