The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, issued a message this Wednesday on the occasion of the commemoration of the 64th anniversary of Victory Day, observed on March 19 of each year. Following is the complete text of the message:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and prayers and peace be upon the most honorable of messengers,
Fellow citizens,
On this March 19th, we celebrate Victory Day—the day that announced the end of a colonial hegemony lasting over a century and thirty years. It was an era that embodied the image of unjust settler colonialism, devoid of all human values, steeped in killing, destruction, and pillage, and carrying the most heinous descriptions of aggression and brutality. Yet, it stood trembling and shaken before the power of truth and the laws of the universe, which—throughout history—have always granted victory to those seeking the freedom upon which Allah created humanity.
Allah Almighty granted victory to the Algerian people through a glorious and exalted Revolution whose flame never dies out; a great and blessed Revolution whose memory is never forgotten. It was a Revolution led by heroes who believed in either a free and dignified life or death under the banner of martyrdom so that Algeria may live: “That we are in revolt, whether to live or to die, we are determined that Algeria should live”. It was a Revolution embraced by a people deeply rooted in their land and fiercely protective of their identity, who marched from the First of November, 1954, to its ultimate conclusion—to the moment when modern history bore witness to a victory achieved through rivers of blood, widespread tragedy and destruction, scorched earth, and systematic looting. A people who endured all of this is a people who carry their trust with full sanctity and continue the journey guided by the message of the Martyrs.
Praise be to Allah for the gift of remaining faithful to these sacrifices in our precious Algeria, which today faces the challenges of building economic immunity and strengthening its shields of sovereignty amidst turbulent regional and international circumstances. Algeria has defined its path and prioritized the enhancement of national economic capabilities through major, structured, and integrated achievements within a multi-front strategic development project with high ambitions. This project is being realized on the ground thanks to sincere national wills and concerted efforts, dedicated to safeguarding the interests of the State and serving the people. It is a will that believes in a victorious Algeria through the participation of all—one where the hopes of Algerian women and men are fulfilled. On this 64th anniversary of Victory Day, we join them in humbly praying for the souls of our righteous Martyrs and renewing our pledge of loyalty to their message.
