Algeria secured the 24th position globally at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2026, which concluded on Sunday evening in Torun (Poland), thereby topping the ranking of participating African and Arab nations in this global event.
This achievement was made possible thanks to the bronze medal won by Algerian athlete Yasser Mohamed Tahar Triki in the triple jump competition. He recorded a leap of 17.30 meters, finishing third behind Italy's Andy Díaz Hernández (17.47m) and Jamaica's Jordan Scott (17.33m).
Algeria participated in this global event (March 20-22) with four athletes. In addition to Triki, the squad included Mohamed Ali Gouaned, Slimane Moula (800m), and Younes Ayachi (High Jump - 17 years old). However, they were unable to add further medals to the Algerian tally.
The first place globally went to the United States with a total of 18 medals (5 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze), ahead of Great Britain in second place (4 gold) and Italy in third place (5 medals: 3 gold and 2 silver).
The World Indoor Championships is considered one of the most prominent annual events organized by World Athletics, witnessing the participation of elite global athletes competing for the season's first titles.
