The African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) unveiled on Thursday the schedule for the Zone 1 qualifying tournament for the African Nations Championship (June 27 – July 2). The tournament will bring together three countries, including Algeria, with a single ticket at stake for the final phase scheduled from September 7 to 21, 2026, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
National coach Kamel Imloul's men will kick off their campaign on the opening day, Saturday, June 27, against Morocco, before facing Tunisia the following day (Sunday, June 28) in a match that could already prove decisive in the race for qualification.
The schedule then provides a rest day for the Algerian team on June 29, before a second clash against Morocco on June 30. The "Greens" will meet Tunisia again on July 1 for a second face-off.
The format chosen by the organizers features a double round-robin between the three participating teams, meaning each selection will play four matches. At the end of the tournament, only one spot will be awarded for the final phase of the Men's African Nations Championship, scheduled from September 7 to 21, 2026, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
As the reigning African vice-champion following its silver medal obtained during the 2023 edition in Egypt, Algeria approaches this tournament with the ambition of securing its continental ticket and confirming its status among the best African nations in the discipline.
To prepare for this event, the Algerian internationals followed a preparation program that included several training camps in Jijel, as well as a pre-competitive training camp in Poland punctuated by friendly matches.
The 2026 Men's African Nations Championship holds particular importance, as it will also constitute a major step in the race to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
