Arab U23 Athletics Championship: Two New Gold Medals for Algeria

Algerian athletes Ayoub Benadja and Yacoub Abdelmottaleb bolstered Algeria's tally with two new gold medals at the ongoing Arab U23 Athletics Championship in Egypt. The duo secured their victories on Tuesday in the triple jump and discus throw events, respectively, at the Ismailia Stadium.

With these wins, the Algerian national team's provisional tally has risen to five medals, four golds and one bronze since the start of the competition, which will run until June 24th.

Algeria’s first gold medal was claimed by Issam Louadj in the long jump, recording a leap of 7.59 meters. He finished ahead of Tunisia's Mohamed Khalil Ftouhi (7.58m) and Saudi Arabia's Ahmed Al-Tarouti (7.41m).

The second gold medal was secured by Anes Dja Yahia in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking in at 8:21.89, which marks his personal best in this distance.

Meanwhile, the bronze medal was won by female runner Nour Meriem Goumane in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 10:26.50.

The third edition of the Arab U23 Athletics Championship features 14 participating countries: Algeria, Kuwait, Yemen, Bahrain, Oman, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Lebanon, Iraq, Libya, Djibouti, Morocco, and the host nation, Egypt.

This sporting event is part of ongoing efforts to develop youth competitions, encourage promising talents, and provide athletes with greater opportunities to gain competitive experience.
