The Water and Sanitation Company of Algiers (SEAAL) signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday in Algiers with the public accelerator Algeria Venture. The agreement marks the launch of a joint acceleration program designed to support and back startups with innovative projects in the field of public water and sanitation services.

The agreement was signed by SEAAL’s General Manager, Reda Boudab, and Algeria Venture’s General Manager, Lyes Abdoun, on the sidelines of the World Water Day celebrations. The purpose of this agreement is to implement a joint acceleration program based on developing innovative pilot projects capable of contributing to the improvement of public water and sanitation services.

The first pilot project launched under this framework involves a remote management system for a hydraulic site, developed in partnership with a startup, SEAAL officials announced. They noted that this initiative illustrates the company's new focus on innovation and the promotion of modern technological solutions as part of a broader approach to improving public services within the sector.

For his part, the General Manager of Algeria Venture indicated that the public accelerator is working to fast-track the growth of startups—particularly those requiring financing—by connecting them with economic operators. The ultimate goal is to extend this initiative to other fields, such as artificial intelligence.

Organized under the theme "Water, Source of Equality," World Water Day provided an opportunity for micro-enterprises and startups to showcase their innovations and strengthen their ties with industry professionals.

On this occasion, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Hydraulics, Omar Bougueroua, reaffirmed the State's commitment to protecting water resources. This involves adopting ambitious policies aimed at guaranteeing the water supply for citizens through the implementation of major water transfer projects and the interconnection of dams, thereby ensuring a water balance across the different regions of the country.

Discussing the efforts made to combat water stress caused by climate change through the development of unconventional resources, particularly seawater desalination, the official recalled the commissioning of 19 large desalination plants and 13 smaller units.
