The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, held a meeting in the capital, Niamey, with his Nigerien counterpart, Mr. Adji Ali Salato, during which they discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of telecommunications and digital technologies, according to a ministry statement released on Wednesday.
The same source clarified that as part of the Prime Minister's official visit to the Republic of Niger to participate in the proceedings of the second session of the Algerian-Nigerien High Joint Commission for Cooperation, "Mr. Zerrouki held a meeting with his counterpart, Mr. Salato, and officials from Niger's telecommunications sector. The meeting was attended by executives from both countries, including officials from Niger Telecoms, the official in charge of the General Directorate of Information and Communication Technologies, and the Chairman and CEO of Algérie Télécom."
The meeting, as noted in the statement, provided an opportunity to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in telecommunications and digital technologies. The two parties discussed "prospects for developing telecommunications infrastructure, particularly supporting the capacity of fiber optic networks and enhancing interconnectivity, thereby contributing to the improvement of digital service quality in the region."
The two sides also discussed cooperation opportunities in digital skills development through "joint work on establishing and developing digital skills centers, in addition to train-the-trainer programs in information and communication technologies, which will contribute to transferring expertise and building the capacities of local talents," according to the same source.
On this occasion, they addressed "the possibilities of assisting the Nigerien side in launching new digital and telecommunications services, and benefiting from the Algerian experience in developing postal and digital services."
The statement pointed out that the meeting falls within "the shared will of both countries to enhance bilateral partnerships and develop cooperation in areas related to digital transformation, serving economic development and strengthening integration between Algeria and Niger."
