Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb Holds Bilateral Talks with Mauritanian Counterpart

 Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb held bilateral talks on Tuesday at the Government Palace in Algiers with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Djay, who is visiting Algeria for the 20th session of the Algerian-Mauritanian High Joint Commission for Cooperation.

The bilateral meeting was followed by an expanded session involving the delegations of both countries. During this session, both parties reviewed the current status and future prospects of bilateral relations, particularly in light of the results of the follow-up committee meeting held on Monday, co-chaired by the Foreign Ministers of both countries, Mr. Ahmed Attaf and his Mauritanian counterpart, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk.

During the session, the Prime Minister praised the outstanding level of cooperation and partnership between Algeria and Mauritania, highlighting the "new achievements, intensive contacts, and continuous consultation and coordination through the exchange of official visits at various levels." He noted that these efforts align with the high directives of the two heads of state, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to bestow a sustainable strategic character on bilateral relations and achieve the highest levels of integration.

The Prime Minister also commended the existing cooperation in economic fields, such as energy, agriculture, and trade, especially with the upcoming completion of strategic bilateral projects, foremost among them the road linking Tindouf and Zouerate and the commercial and industrial free trade zone, which are expected to boost economic exchanges.

For his part, the Mauritanian Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the convening of the High Joint Commission, which reflects "the shared commitment of both governments to strengthen bilateral cooperation, implementing the high directives of the two leaders, who share a distinguished relationship and a sincere common ambition."

Mr. Ould Djay also emphasized the "importance of working together to revitalize cooperation mechanisms, ensuring they are held periodically and following up on the implementation of their results to contribute to strengthening the partnership, especially given the significant assets and long-standing fraternal and human ties between the two nations."

Following the conclusion of the session, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb and his Mauritanian counterpart presided over the signing ceremony of several agreements, memoranda of understanding (MoUs), and cooperation programs. These agreements cover the sectors of Interior, Security, Hydrocarbons, Finance, Energy, Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry, Agriculture, Fisheries, Transport, Trade, Housing, Education, Higher Education, Vocational Training, Youth and Sports, Labor, Communication, Culture, Relations with Parliament, and the Environment.
