The citizens of Annaba reacted with great interest on Tuesday to the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the Wilaya, viewing it as a significant event and an opportunity to highlight Algeria's image as a land of tolerance, dialogue, and coexistence between religions and civilizations.
Since early morning, citizens have gathered to follow the various stages of the Papal visit, in a scene reflecting the growing public interest in this historic occasion.
In this context, Samir (45 years old) stated that the Pope's visit is a major event for the city and serves as an opportunity to showcase the true image of the Algerian people, known for their values of hospitality, generosity, and tolerance.
For his part, Tamer (23 years old), a university student, said that the occasion sparked great curiosity in him to learn more about other cultures. Meanwhile, Sonia (38 years old) expressed her pride in Annaba hosting such an international event, noting that Algeria is a land of coexistence, and this visit truly reflects that reality.
Similarly, Salim (30 years old) observed that the city has been witnessing constant dynamism over the past few days, and as a local resident, he felt compelled to follow the event closely.
Near the Saint Augustin Basilica, numerous visitors stopped to take photographs, while others in the Old City followed the proceedings of Pope Leo XIV’s visit. This widespread public interest underscores the local community's engagement in ensuring the success of this event, which carries profound religious and cultural dimensions.
