An exhibition showcasing the memory of Algerian and Egyptian cinema is being held at the Annaba city train station as part of the 6th edition of the Annaba Mediterranean Film Festival.
The opening ceremony took place on Saturday evening in the presence of the Chief of Staff to the Wali of the Wilaya of Annaba, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Algeria, Abdel Latif El-Layeh, the Festival Commissioner, Mohamed Allal, and the Director of Culture and Arts for the Wilaya of Annaba, Saliha Berkouk, alongside several artists and international guests.
In a statement on the occasion, Festival Commissioner Mohamed Allal emphasized that organizing the exhibition at the train station—a protected national landmark—aims to bring the "Seventh Art" closer to the public and place cinema at the heart of vital public spaces. He added that the exhibition celebrates the deep-rooted artistic ties between Algerian and Egyptian cinema and reflects the festival's commitment to valuing film archives as an integral part of Mediterranean cultural identity.
For her part, the Director of Culture and Arts for the Wilaya, Saliha Berkouk, stated that the station's hosting of the exhibition "carries special symbolism as a historical space reflecting the essence of memory." She noted that this activity aligns with the festival's goals to revive shared cinematic memory and falls within the culture sector's efforts to enhance artistic dynamism and openness to various forms of expression.
The exhibition offers visitors a diverse range of film posters documenting prominent works in the history of Algerian and Egyptian cinema, as well as displays of both vintage and modern technical equipment illustrating the evolution of filmmaking tools.
The event also features a contribution from the "Adwaa" Association from Algiers, which participated with documentary items and models that enriched the exhibition and highlighted significant milestones in film production history.
The exhibition remains open to the public and enthusiasts throughout the duration of the festival, aiming to promote shared cinematic heritage and strengthen Mediterranean cultural exchange.
