Algeria has been elected for the sixth consecutive time as a member of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE). The election took place during the 7th Conference of States Parties to the Pelindaba Treaty, held on June 25 and 26 in Addis-Abeba.
This renewed election reaffirms Algeria’s prestigious standing within African bodies and reflects the continuous trust placed in the country by member states. This recognition stems from Algeria's active contributions to achieving the objectives of the Pelindaba Treaty, supporting efforts to maintain Africa as a nuclear-weapon-free zone, and promoting regional cooperation in the peaceful applications of nuclear energy.
This electoral achievement is an extension of a series of successes Algeria has realized across various organs and mechanisms of the African Union (UA). It underscores Algeria’s influential role on the continental stage and its dedication to serving African causes while strengthening joint African action.
Algeria participated in the conference with a delegation led by Mr. Mohammed Khaled, Algeria's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union. The delegation also included representatives from the Ministry of National Defense, the National Authority for Nuclear Safety and Security, and the Algerian Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA).
