The Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, issued instructions yesterday, Monday, to remove all obstacles "as soon as possible" to ensure the effective launch of the strategic Algiers-Tamanrasset railway project and to accelerate the completion of the Trans-Saharan Highway.

The Minister's directives were given during a working session dedicated to reviewing the status of the Trans-Saharan Highway and the progress of preparations for the Algiers-Tamanrasset railway project—specifically the sections linking Laghouat, Ghardaïa, El Meniaa, In Salah, and Tamanrasset. The meeting was attended by central administration officials, the Secretary General of the Trans-Saharan Road Liaison Committee (CLRT), and the directors of public works from the relevant southern wilayas, according to a ministry communiqué.

During the session, regional sector officials presented detailed technical reports on the condition of various sections of the Trans-Saharan Highway, as well as the progress of maintenance, modernization, and upgrading works. They also outlined field constraints and provided a comprehensive overview of projects included in the program aimed at improving the performance and ensuring the sustainability of this strategic axis.

The meeting also addressed the technical cooperation established with the Republic of Chad regarding the realization of the Trans-Saharan Highway, reflecting the regional dimension of the project and its importance in strengthening continental connectivity.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the need to "accelerate the pace of work and complete projects within the set deadlines, while ensuring rigorous field monitoring to guarantee quality and compliance with schedules." He highlighted the "strategic importance of this road in supporting national development and strengthening connectivity between the different regions of the country."

Regarding the preparations for the Algiers-Tamanrasset railway line, the Minister discussed the ongoing work supervised by the National Agency for Railway Investment Studies and Implementation (ANESRIF). This work is being carried out in coordination with the Walis and public works directors of the wilayas involved in the project—covering the sections of Laghouat, Ghardaïa, El Meniaa, In Salah, and Tamanrasset—to address and resolve all field constraints, particularly those related to clearing rights-of-way and relocating various utility networks prior to the actual start of construction.

In this context, a detailed report was presented on the progress of clearing the rights-of-way for this section. Mr. Djellaoui issued "firm instructions" to "remove all obstacles within the shortest possible time to guarantee the effective start of this strategic project," the communiqué concluded.
