The Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin Anderson, expressed yesterday, Tuesday, his country's aspiration to strengthen cooperation with Algeria in the field of counter-terrorism. He also voiced his appreciation for the role Algeria plays as a pillar of regional stability, praising the level of existing relations between the two countries in this field.

In a statement to the press following his reception, alongside the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Mr. Christopher Landau, and their accompanying delegation, by the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Anderson said: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to meet His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as for the discussions with the senior leaders of the People's National Army, led by General Saïd Chanegriha (Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army).” He described the talks held between the two sides as “fruitful”.

The AFRICOM Commander expressed his appreciation for the “cooperation and the deep-rooted relationship that Algeria continues to strengthen in counter-terrorism,” adding: “We look forward intensely to enhancing this cooperation, especially in light of the continued global expansion of terrorism, as we consider this threat to be an urgent matter.”

He added that the cooperation between the two countries “is becoming increasingly important,” emphasizing in this regard that “the United States can provide its global counter-terrorism expertise alongside the outstanding capabilities that Algeria possesses, thanks to its deep experience in this field. This provides a great opportunity for future cooperation, serving the mutual interests and security of both countries.”

He also pointed to the shared values between the two countries, stating in this regard: “As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of United States independence, we recall with appreciation that we, too, liberated ourselves from colonialism. We fully realize the importance of sovereignty, dignity, and independence, and the necessity of always defending them, values we share with the Algerian people.”

In a related context, he noted the existence of real opportunities to continue joint bilateral work “to protect these values from terrorist organizations that respect neither human dignity nor state sovereignty and operate across borders without regard for any party.” In the same framework, General Dagvin Anderson highlighted the significance of the role played by Algeria in the region, adding: “I look forward to further strengthening this relationship and appreciate the important role Algeria plays as a pillar of stability in this part of the world. We seek to exchange expertise and work together to face these challenges.”

He also emphasized that the security approach “must be comprehensive,” noting that “military solutions alone are not enough; they must be accompanied by economic investment, development, and the strengthening of social cohesion.”

The AFRICOM Commander concluded by emphasizing the importance of working for future generations, stating: “We are doing this not only for the present, but for the future of our children, so they can enjoy the same opportunities we had, and live in peace, prosperity, and independence.”
