The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Radosław Sikorski, affirmed on Wednesday that Algeria is his country’s most important partner in Africa, expressing Poland's strong desire to further develop bilateral relations.

In a press statement following an audience granted to him and his accompanying delegation by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Sikorski stated that the meeting reaffirmed that "relations between Poland and Algeria are strong," highlighting his country’s commitment to expanding them.

In this regard, he noted the continuation of discussions with his counterpart, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf. These talks follow the dialogue initiated in Warsaw in June 2024, marking the first visit by a Polish Foreign Minister to Algeria since 2017.

Mr. Sikorski emphasized that Algeria is a "vital partner" for Poland, as the largest country in Africa and one of the world's leading energy producers. He also identified Algeria as Poland’s "top economic partner" in North Africa, noting that trade volume between the two nations reached $1 billion in 2025. According to Polish statistics, Algerian exports have tripled, reaching approximately $300 million.

Regarding the primary objective of his visit, the Polish Deputy Prime Minister explained that it aims to "review and strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in economic cooperation." He is accompanied by the Deputy Minister of State Assets, along with senior executives from major Polish corporations such as Azoty and Orlen.

Mr. Sikorski highlighted Poland's ambition to "increase the involvement of Polish companies, investors, and exporters, especially in the sectors of energy, renewable energy, agriculture, and the food industry."

Furthermore, he pointed to the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Polish Diplomatic Academy and the Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations in Algeria, aimed at "enhancing the exchange of expertise and knowledge." He added that both parties agreed to "take further steps to organize trade missions, cultural events, and academic exchanges," signing a Letter of Intent to boost cooperation.

On another level, the meeting addressed current international issues, focusing on "security, stability, and respect for international law regarding the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East, and the Sahel region."

Concerning the Sahel, Mr. Sikorski expressed regret over the "political instability, the spread of terrorism, illegal migration, and the activities of foreign mercenaries" in the region, affirming "Poland’s solidarity with Algeria in facing these challenges."

Mr. Sikorski concluded by saying: "I look forward to continuing our cooperation in the future, as Poland and Algeria are rediscovering each other, and I have high hopes for what we can achieve together."
