The Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army (ANP), Général d'Armée Saïd Chanegriha, received Saturday at the ANP Headquarters the French Minister Delegate for Veterans Affairs, attached to the Minister of the Armed Forces, Alice Rufo, who is on a working visit to Algeria leading a high-level delegation, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN).*
The statement noted that "the reception ceremony began with a salute to the national flag and military honors rendered to the French Minister Delegate by formations from various branches of the People's National Army."
The meeting was attended by the Commander of Land Forces, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Defense, the Commanders of the Forces and the Republican Guard, the Director of the Cabinet at the Ministry of National Defense, the Commander of the National Gendarmerie, and Central Directors from the MDN and the ANP Staff, as well as members of the French delegation.
During the meeting, "the two parties reviewed ways to develop and strengthen coordination on matters of common interest, as well as the state of bilateral military cooperation between the armies of the two countries. They also discussed global security challenges and exchanged views on various current issues."
Général d'Armée Saïd Chanegriha delivered a speech welcoming the Minister Delegate, noting that this visit is expected to inject new momentum into the cooperation between the two countries.
He stated: "I would like, at the outset, to welcome you and your accompanying delegation to Algeria. This visit coincides with Algeria's commemoration of the National Day of Remembrance, marking the massacres of May 8, 1945—a pivotal moment in Algeria's eternal history and its struggle for freedom. The Algerian people, who participated and sacrificed during World War II, had the right to demand an independent, sovereign state."
He added: "In this context, both countries must work together to overcome the residues of this painful colonial past—without forgetting it—and look toward a future defined by mutual respect, striving together to achieve common interests and address the rapid challenges on the regional and international stages."
For her part, Alice Rufo "praised the warm reception and expressed her pleasure to be in Algeria and to participate in the commemorations of the May 8, 1945, massacres in the province of Sétif."
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two parties exchanged symbolic gifts, after which Alice Rufo signed the Golden Book of the ANP General Staff, the statement concluded.
