Algeria is participating with a delegation including members of the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations in New York, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and the Embassy of Algeria in Nicaragua, in the proceedings of the Regional Seminar of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization (Committee of 24), scheduled to take place in Managua from May 25 to 27.
This annual meeting focuses on evaluating the situation in the 17 territories included on the United Nations agenda, including the cause of Western Sahara. This meeting is taking place at a time when this file is receiving special attention from the United Nations, in light of the recent developments since the beginning of this year.
In this context, Mr. Denis Moncada, the Minister Advisor for Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua, chaired the opening session of the seminar, reaffirming his country's firm commitment to the right of peoples to self-determination, and expressing full solidarity with all nations still struggling to achieve it.
During this seminar, the Algerian delegation will join its efforts with those of representatives from numerous delegations of African, Latin American, and Asian countries to renew unwavering support for just causes and advocate for the inalienable right of peoples to self-determination, with special attention given to the cause of Western Sahara.
In this regard, it should be noted that the Committee of 24 is the United Nations body responsible for monitoring the implementation of Resolution 1514, which remains the founding text and the cornerstone of the United Nations doctrine in the field of decolonization.
