The President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, presided this Wednesday at the Palace of the People (Algiers) over a ceremony honoring athletes crowned with various titles in continental and world competitions.
The honoring ceremony took place in the presence of senior state officials, members of the government, and high-ranking state executives.
The President of the Republic honored the women's national wheelchair basketball team, the national gymnastics team, and the national badminton team, in addition to the national judo team, the national boxing team, the national athletics team, as well as the national wrestling team, alongside the national windsurfing team and the national table tennis team, in recognition of their excellence in continental and international events and their honorable results.
On the same occasion, the President of the Republic honored the USM Alger team, crowned champions of the 2026 CAF Confederation Cup.
Also honored were the world gymnastics champion, Kaylia Nemour, athletics athlete in the high jump discipline, Ayachi Younes, runner Touahria Zakaria, and athlete Athimi Marouane Abdelmohcine in the Kung Fu-Wushu discipline, alongside Cylia Ouikene and Louiza Abouriche in Karate-Do, Messaoud Redouane Dris in Judo, as well as boxer Mansouri Fatiha.
In his address on the occasion, the Minister of Sports, Mr. Walid Sadi, praised the President of the Republic's commitment to supporting and accompanying national sports. On behalf of the sports community, he expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the President for his "immense care, continuous support, and permanent encouragement" of national sports.
He emphasized that this honoring ceremony will remain "an important milestone in the journey of these champion athletes and a powerful incentive for them to continue working and raising the national flag high in various international sports forums."
He added, saying: "In implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic, we are committed to continuing our work to instill a culture of excellence among athletes through the 'Olympic Champion' project. This will allow us to support talent, mobilize sports federations, and provide the necessary conditions that enable the sports elite to honor Algeria in various international and continental sports events, while expanding the foundation of sports practice."
The Minister also praised the "pure national spirit" displayed by national community athletes residing abroad, and their choice to represent Algeria and defend its colors across various disciplines.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the President of the Republic took a commemorative photo with the standout athletes and with the players and managers of the USM Alger team, who in turn presented the 2026 CAF Confederation Cup trophy and a club jersey as a gift to the President.
