The captain of the Algerian national team, Riyad Mahrez, ranked 21st in the individual ranking of the International Federation of Association Football, "FIFA Power Rankings." This is a new system for evaluating player performance, launched on the occasion of the 2026 World Cup finals currently taking place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
This system was developed in cooperation with the energy group Aramco and relies on the analysis of data collected during the tournament matches, with the aim of providing an objective evaluation of players' individual performances.
Outfield players are evaluated on a scale of 0 to 10 points across three areas: attack, creativity, and defense, while goalkeepers are evaluated based on their ability to control the ball and protect their goal.
Mahrez, who scored two goals in Algeria's match against Austria (3–3) during the third and final round of the group stage, recorded an average of 6.46 points in attack, 6 points in creativity, and 4.9 points in defense.
After each round of competition, FIFA prepares a ranking of the top 100 players in each category, in addition to a general ranking that is updated after every match.
The "FIFA Power Rankings" aim to measure the performance of players throughout the tournament, where each participant receives an evaluation for each appearance, as well as an overall evaluation for their campaign in the competition.
Riyad Mahrez's inclusion among the top 25 players in the general standings underscores the significant impact he has delivered since the launch of the 2026 World Cup, as well as his prominent role in the Algerian national team's campaign in the tournament.
German international forward Deniz Undav leads the rankings for the best outfield players, ahead of Argentina's Lionel Messi and France's Kylian Mbappé, following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup group stage.
