Prime Minister Mr. Sifi Ghrieb chaired this Wednesday the third session of the National Council for Agricultural Mechanization, in application of the directives of the President of the Republic. The full text of the press release is as follows:
"This meeting was dedicated to evaluating the implementation of decisions made during the previous session, as part of the strategy aimed at developing and modernizing agricultural mechanization in Algeria.
This meeting comes as the initial results of the 2026 harvesting and threshing campaign are deemed highly encouraging. The high production recorded this year required an exceptional mobilization of logistical resources as well as close coordination between the various stakeholders in the agricultural sector and State institutions.
During the proceedings, farmers and industry professionals presented their interventions and proposals. They notably highlighted the positive impact of the provision of various categories of agricultural equipment, as well as the newly delivered storage capacities reinforced during this campaign. According to participants, these measures enabled the collection of significant quantities of cereals produced across the country.
The discussions also addressed farmers' expectations regarding the renewal and modernization of agricultural equipment. Participants emphasized the need for higher-performance machinery to improve yields and increase national cereal production, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the country's food security policy.
At the conclusion of the meeting, and in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister issued directives to establish a distribution plan for combine harvesters based on scientific methodology and technical criteria. This distribution must take into account the specific harvest plan for each wilaya to ensure the optimal utilization of available equipment.
He also insisted on the necessity of guaranteeing the maintenance services essential for the proper functioning of agricultural machinery, enabling the completion of the harvesting and threshing campaign under the best possible conditions.
Looking ahead to the next agricultural campaign, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb further called for the strengthening of agricultural equipment manufacturing capacities by national companies. He also mentioned the possibility of concluding partnerships with leading international companies in this field to meet the needs expressed by farmers, in accordance with the required technical specifications, while ensuring the highest possible level of national integration.
Finally, participants examined the financial aspects related to this operation. The discussions highlighted the role of the Public Treasury and banking institutions in financing the development and modernization of production resources intended for the agricultural sector. These resources are considered an essential lever to support the growth of national production and consolidate Algeria's food security."
