Professor of Economics, Dr. Hakim Bouharb, emphasized that the official visit of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Germany represents an important milestone to elevate Algerian-German relations to broader horizons, noting that it comes at a sensitive economic and geopolitical juncture that drives both countries to strengthen economic and political cooperation and build more sustainable partnerships.

He explained that through this rapprochement, Algeria seeks to diversify its strategic options and attract technology and quality investments, while Germany views Algeria as a stable partner and a gateway to African markets.

Bouharb’s statements came during his appearance on the “L’invité du jour” program broadcast by the First Channel of the Algerian Radio, where he discussed the importance of the President’s official visit to Germany and its potential implications for the future of bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic and strategic fields.

The speaker pointed out that the German economy, as one of the largest European and global economies, possesses vast expertise in technology and industry, which offers Algeria an opportunity to enhance technology transfer, develop its industrial fabric, and support strategic projects, foremost of which is the green hydrogen project. He added that this visit could provide greater momentum to the institutional partnership between the two countries, contributing to exploring new investment opportunities, promoting the Algerian investment climate, and attracting German capital.

Bouharb explained that the current volume of trade, which hovers around four billion dollars, does not reflect the true economic potential of the two countries, calling for a transition from a traditional commercial relationship to a strategic investment and industrial partnership. He also stressed the importance of activating economic diplomacy, establishing permanent institutions to structure cooperation, and integrating Algerian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into German value chains, which would allow for the transfer of expertise and the modernization of production means.

Regarding the "SoutH2 Corridor" project, Bouharb considered it one of the most important pillars of future cooperation between Algeria and Germany, emphasizing that Algeria possesses the necessary natural resources to produce green hydrogen, including vast solar and wind energy potential, in addition to political and security stability that solidifies its position as a reliable energy supplier. He pointed out that the project has moved beyond the conceptual stage into advanced study phases, suggesting that it will contribute to transforming Algeria into a primary hub for producing and exporting green hydrogen to Europe.

The guest also highlighted that the areas of cooperation are not limited to the energy sector, but also encompass technology, artificial intelligence, dual training (vocational education), digitalization, smart management, the mining sector, and logistics, stressing that leveraging German expertise in these fields would support Algeria's strategy aimed at diversifying its economy and boosting its competitiveness.
