A total of 67 journalists were killed worldwide in the line of duty or due to their profession over the past year, with nearly half in the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a genocidal Zionist aggression for over two years, according to a report published Tuesday by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

"The number of journalists killed (from December 1, 2024, to December 1, 2025) has risen again," laments the press freedom organization, which states that "journalists do not simply die; they are killed."

Reporters Without Borders had documented 49 journalists killed in 2023, one of the lowest figures in the past twenty years. However, the aggression led by the Zionist entity in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has fueled an increase in this toll for 2024 (66 killed, according to an updated count) and 2025 (67).

With at least 29 media employees killed in the past twelve months in the Palestinian territory while performing their jobs, and at least 220 since October 2023 when including those killed outside of their professional duties, the Zionist army is "the worst enemy of journalists," RSF notes.

Earlier in December, the Gaza media office announced that the number of journalists martyred since October 7, 2023, had risen to 257, condemning the martyrdom of a journalist in a Zionist army bombardment in the southern part of the Palestinian enclave, despite a ceasefire that has been in effect since last October 10.

Reporters Without Borders also lamented "the deadliest year in Mexico in at least three years," with nine journalists killed.
