FIFA Arab Cup 2025: Algeria Defeats Iraq 2–0 to Reach the Quarterfinals

The Algerian national A' football team has qualified for the quarterfinals of the FIFA Arab Cup 2025 after defeating Iraq (2–0), on Tuesday evening at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, in the third and final matchday of Group D.

Algeria’s goals were scored by Amine Tougai (45’) and  Yacine Brahimi (47’, pen.). Iraq played with ten players from the 4th minute following the dismissal of Hussein Ali Jasim Al Saedi .

With this victory their second in the tournament after a (5–1) win over Bahrain and a draw against Sudan (0–0), Madjid Bougherra's men finish the group stage in first place with 7 points, followed by Iraq with 6 points. Both teams advance to the quarterfinals.

In the other Group D fixture, Bahrain defeated Sudan (3–1), concluding their participation in third place with three points, while Sudan finished bottom with just one point.

In the quarterfinals, scheduled for next Friday at 18:30 at Al Bayt Stadium, Algeria will face the United Arab Emirates, who finished second in Group C. Meanwhile, Group C leaders Jordan will take on Iraq, second in Group D at the Education City Stadium earlier the same day (15:30).

It is worth noting that the winner of the Arab Cup will receive a financial prize exceeding USD 7 million, while the runner-up will earn more than USD 4 million.
