Thousands of farmers demonstrated with hundreds of tractors on Thursday in the European institutions district of Brussels, close to the European Parliament, protesting against the European Union's agricultural policy.
According to local media, the demonstration against EU governments' intention to sign the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement drew approximately 7,300 farmers and 950 tractors.
The European executive and Brazil—which currently holds the presidency of the alliance that includes Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay—are pushing to finalize a trade deal by the end of the week. Under negotiation for a quarter of a century, the agreement would create the world's largest free-trade zone.
