The cultural scene has been enriched by the release of a new book titled The Era of Ancestors and Customs of Ancient Djanet ("L’ère des aïeux et les us de l’ancienne Djanet") by researcher and teacher Othmane Ben Sid-Ahmed Beneggas. The author announced on Tuesday that the work covers the socio-cultural heritage of the city of Djanet.
Published by the "Djawda" publishing house, the 190-page book offers analyses and documentation comprising a sociological study, anthropological insights, and an exploration of Djanet's Saharan socio-cultural legacy. It is intended to serve as a reference for researchers interested in the history and civilization linked to the region.
Divided into three chapters, the first covers religious, national, and social festivals and events. The second focuses on family life and its traditions—such as weddings, births, and funerals—highlighting the crucial role of women as custodians, protectors, and transmitters of heritage to future generations.
The third chapter is dedicated to agrarian traditions and the agricultural calendar, reflecting the relationship between humans, the land, and astronomy.
The author also sought to substantiate this work through interviews and field observations at the ksour (fortified villages) of Ighermène, El-Mizane, Adjahil, and Azelouaz, in order to describe the daily life of Djanet's inhabitants.
