The Commissariat of the International Theatre Festival of Béjaïa has announced the organization of the festival’s 15th edition from October 15 to 23. This edition is set to be a "premier venue for showcasing the most prominent national and international theatrical experiences."
According to a statement from the Commissariat, this year’s festival will feature, for the first time, an official competition for theatrical performances from participating countries. This move aims to "strengthen the competitive dimension" of the festival and "foster openness toward international theatrical practices."
The statement further explained that the vision for this edition considers the festival a "strategic space" for reflecting on theatre and a "platform for dialogue between creators and researchers." It emphasizes that theatre is not merely performed but also critically examined, reinforcing its status as a "cultural, aesthetic, and societal act."
The organizers also seek to "consolidate the international dimension of this event" while "valuing Algerian theatrical heritage" and "highlighting the diversity of its artistic forms and experiences."
Furthermore, the 15th edition will be designated as the "Edition of the City," celebrating the history and memory of Bejaia, its public spaces, institutions, artists, and all those who contributed to the founding and evolution of this prestigious festival.
