A presidential decree was published in the Official Journal No. 6, establishing the President of the Republic Award for Best Startup. The initiative aims to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship while promoting and developing the knowledge economy and the startup ecosystem.
This concerns Decree No. 26-86, signed by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on January 19. The decree establishes the President of the Republic Award for Best Startup across three categories, aiming to "reward each of the three categories that have realized the best solutions or services related to innovation and new technologies." These categories are: Best Scale-up, Best Startup, and Best Innovative Project.
The financial reward is set at 3 million Algerian dinars (DA) for the Best Scale-up, 2 million DA for the Best Startup, and 1 million DA for the Best Innovative Project. According to the decree, in the event of a collective effort for the Best Innovative Project, the prize money will be distributed equally among the participants.
The award is bestowed by a jury appointed by an order from the Minister in charge of Startups for a one-year term, renewable once. The jury is composed of a representative of the Minister, an international expert in the field of new technologies, and a national or international expert in the field of venture capital.
The jury also includes two members of the National Committee for the Labeling of Startups, Innovative Projects, and Incubators, as well as a representative of the Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI). The decree stipulates that the jury may call upon any qualified person or expert to assist in its work.
The award is presented during an official ceremony held during Global Entrepreneurship Week in November of each year, the source added.
