Dozens of people, including soldiers, were killed by terrorists overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in Borno State (northeast Nigeria), according to local and medical sources.

"The death toll stands at several dozen... and many soldiers are missing," Ibrahim Liman, a member of a self-defense group, told the media.

Twenty bodies—including those of five soldiers, 15 construction workers, and local hunters—were transported to the General Hospital in Biu, located 45 km from Sabon Gari where the attack took place, according to Mr. Liman.

Bukar Yamta Ali, secretary of a hunters' group in Yamarkumi, a locality situated outside the Biu Local Government Area, as well as two nurses from the Biu hospital, confirmed receiving bodies and wounded individuals evacuated from Sabon Gari.

The victims were working on the Wajiroko bridge, which connects the towns of Biu and Damboa. The bridge had been destroyed last year by terrorists and was under reconstruction.

The workers were returning to the Sabon Gari base, located five kilometers away, to spend the night.
