The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has warned against the ongoing martyrdom of Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, emphasizing that these tragedies must not be allowed to become a "new normal."
Edward Beigbeder, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, stated in a press release on Wednesday that eight children were martyred and 17 others injured across five different locations in the Gaza Strip over the weekend. Meanwhile, in the West Bank, a seven-month-old infant was martyred after being shot by Zionist forces in Hébron.
He explained that the children in Gaza were hit while playing football due to a nearby strike, while the infant in the West Bank was killed while in a car with his mother.
The UN official stressed the need to stop targeting children, calling for transparent investigations and accountability for those responsible for any violations. He asserted that protecting children and adhering to international humanitarian law and human rights is an "obligation that cannot be compromised."
