ABUJA — representing the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, Miloud Medjelled, participated on Monday in Abuja, Nigeria, in a meeting regarding the activation process of the African Energy Bank (AEB), according to a statement from the ministry.
The Secretary General was accompanied by a delegation comprising Algeria’s representative to the African Petroleum Producers' Organization (APPO), as well as executives from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and the Sonatrach Group.
This participation took place on the sidelines of the 9th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES 2026), held from February 2 to 5.
According to the statement, the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on operational mechanisms aimed at accelerating the activation of the AEB. Discussions focused on strengthening the bank's role in financing energy projects across Africa to contribute to sustainable development and enhance regional cooperation in this strategic sector.
On the sidelines of the event, the Algerian delegation visited the new headquarters of the AEB, where they inspected the facilities and organizational structures destined to house the bank’s future activities.
This participation reflects Algeria's commitment to supporting African initiatives aimed at strengthening energy integration, promoting investment, and developing innovative financing solutions for the sustainable development of the African continent.
