Portugal's Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Paulo Rangel, on Tuesday described the relations between his country and Algeria as "excellent" and "special," expressing his hope that his visit to Algiers would be an opportunity to further strengthen them.

In a statement following his reception by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Rangel said: "I had the honor of being received by His Excellency the President of the Republic, and I am pleased to visit Algeria. This is an opportunity to create conditions that will further strengthen our bilateral relations, which are already excellent and special."

The Portuguese Minister noted that the meeting addressed the current state of relations between Algeria and Portugal, countries that share the same values, as well as the future prospects for these bilateral ties, and Algeria's very important relations with the European Union.

He added that he discussed international issues with the President, notably "the Middle East, conflicts in Africa, and the situation in the Sahel region."

Furthermore, the Portuguese Foreign Minister took the opportunity to mention the content of his "in-depth and detailed meeting" with the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf.
