Organizing the First Sectoral Cyber Attack Simulation Exercise and Cyber Hackathon

The Algerian Ministry of Post and Telecommunications organized the first sectoral cyber attack simulation exercise and a cyber hackathon, aimed at enhancing the readiness of national institutions to face cyber threats, according to a ministry statement issued this Sunday.

 

The same source stated that “the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Mr. Sid Ali Zerrouki, participate on  Saturday, in the closing activities of the first sectoral cyberattack simulation exercise and cyber hackathon. These events were organized by the Ministry to enhance the readiness of national institutions to face cyber threats, with the participation of all sector institutions”.

 

In a speech delivered on the occasion, Mr. Zerrouki clarified that “strengthening cybersecurity is a pivotal pillar for achieving national digital sovereignty, which is among Algeria's strategic priorities amid rapid digital transformation”.

 

In this regard, he recalled “the directives of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on the necessity of developing an integrated national digital strategy based on proactivity, strengthening the protection of information systems, and promoting a responsible digital citizen culture, ensuring the security of the national cyberspace and the sustainability of its development”.

 

The Minister also praised “the high technical proficiency demonstrated by the participants in the cyber hackathon, which reflects the great potential possessed by Algerian energies”. The statement emphasized that investing in young talent is a “strategic choice to ensure the sustainability of a secure digital transformation”.

 

In a related context, he particularly praised “the students of the National Higher School of Information and Communication Technologies and Post, and all participants who contributed to the success of this scientific and technical event”.

 

According to the same source, “the event's closing program featured simulations of several cyberattack scenarios, including phishing, ransomware, and Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. It also involved presenting and discussing the cyber exercise results, alongside a thematic seminar on cybersecurity and skill development in light of current challenges, followed by an interactive discussion session to address participants' inquiries”.
